As I said earlier, mine arrived today from my "not so" secret Santa. It's a great Carthage/Sicily-Punic Æ15 . I've tried several times this afternoon to take a good pic of the coin, but my images are no where near as nice as the coin. Also, doing a little research, my attribution is somewhat different than that sent by my Secret Santa. Someone needs to check me out on this.
    Sicily, Punic 3 obv.JPG Sicily, Punic 3 rev.JPG
    CARTHAGE/SICILY-PUNIC Æ15
    OBVERSE: Head of Tanit left
    REVERSE: Galloping horse right
Struck at Carthage, 3d-4th Century BC
    4.59g, 15.6mm
SNG Cop 1024 or possibly 1022

    Thank you Secret Santa

Definitely looks like a coin from Carthage. Mine is a full horse head on the reverse.

Agreed coin is very close...and the plot thickens.

I really appreciate that my Secret Santa remember my growing interest in early Islamic and sent me a coin from that numismatic area. Thanks again Secret Sant, you are great!

I had taken Islamic History as an elective this past semester so I recognized the name of the caliph right of the bat, al-Mahdi, but he wasn't discussed a whole lot so had trouble remembering what era/dynasty he was from (Abbasids), but I thought it was pretty cool that I managed to remember his name (this is a new-ish numismatic field for me but I am pretty familiar with the history). He was the son of the previous Caliph al-Mansur, whose name is on my dirham that I have as my avatar.

Obv: Kufic legend (in center): "[There is] no deity except / God alone / no [one is] equal to him", two pellets below, all within triple linear circle, five annulets in margins
Rev: Kufic legend (in center): "Muhammad / is the Messenger of / God"; Kufic legend (in margins): "Ordered by al-Mahdi Muhammad commander of the faithful, of al-Kufa [in the] year seven and sixty and [one] hundred (year 167)
    Mint: Kufa (struck 783-784 AD)

I also participated in a Secret Santa on another numismatic forum and received this gem, an antoninianus of Otacilia Severa (it's a bit shinier in hand):

Oh, and for that Secret Santa my recipient was someone that collected US coinage (or Canadian, can't remember), but I sent an ancient anyways

Woot! I got three coin packages in the mail today, but the one I was most excited to open came from my SS (Super Santa). Just lookie what I got!

I wish I had better light because the pictures really don't do the coins justice. The GLORIA EXERCITVS in particular is MUCH better in hand, and the silvered Maximianus follis looks and feels just magnificent. Absolutely love my present!

Many thanks again to Eng for organizing this round of gift exchanges for us ancients folks :).
