I say RPM because I can see a broad line down the middle of the "S". I hope it shows up. Both the "9's" have some doubling on the tops, maybe MD. The "S" could be MD on top as well but their is definitely 16.jpg a strong line down the middle. Just one pic. Lou

You should be able to see that the MM has damage crossing the top and middle of the S. Also it has the same machine doubling as the date.
The same damage cross's the 6 in 2 spots.

The S looks like it took a hit.
When you have the date AND the mintmark showing the same anomaly, in the same direction and that it has reduced the width of the device, and also considering that the MM was handpunched into the die in a seperate process, it is a good clue that you are not seeing true hub doubling or re-punching of a MM

Yes, I see the damage but below the damage to the middle of the MM I see a strong center line in the middle of the "S".

What do you call doubling on a MM that is the same as the doubling on the date?

The date and MM are added to the dies at 2 different points in the die making process.

Yes, I understand that. What I'm saying is their is a strong line down the center of the MM below the damage. Is that not an RPM?

No it is part of the damage or possibly the beginning of an IDB or die chip.
