I bought a gold double Louis d'Or 1786. It is a French coin but they circulated in the early United States.

Total Coins Purchased (personal collection): 6 Most Expensive: $4,400 Least Expensive: $450 Average Price Paid: $2,504 Number Submitted to CAC: 0 (but I hope to submit them all soon).
I purchased some bulk (aka junk) silver from a member here, and added some mostly filled Whitman books from eBay. These were for my younger son who is working on a Mercury + Roosevelt dime book and a Washington quarter book. I purchased a gold coin from another member here, as well as one from an auction. I have two sons, so I have to keep my collection balanced. But my favorite purchase of the year was a natural 18 gram gold nugget that I purchased while on a trip to Alaska. And no, I didn't purchase two of these...
Hmm, recap the year!!! Continued my numismatic education. I think I'm now in 1st grade! Maybe I'll get to 2nd grade in 2015! Started a graded Type Set Add 100+ coins to my collection Realized I'll never complete a Morgan business strike set and don't really care. Sold unwanted coins through Shane and almost broke even after all fees. Bought my first Gold Coin (non bullion) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the Coin Talk members! It's been a lot of fun reading/posting in this forum. I've learned much from all. Joe
Very busy year buying mint sets and a few proof sets to begin building uncirculated modern sets of all denominations. Yes, I'm breaking them all out of the government packaging. Also bought half, quarter, dime and nickel 1965 SMS graded PCGS SP66 and above to build my wife's birth year set. Still need to find a nice cent specimen. Finally, began working on an uncirculated silver Washington quarter set. Already complete 1950 - 1964, plus a 1941 and 1942. Those early years, especially the branch mints, are going to be tough.
2014 Recap off the top of my head * Joined Cointalk looking for info on a coin. * Found a hobby that I truly enjoy thanks to that first visit to CT. * Found out that my wallet and girlfriend do not particularly care for the new hobby! * Bought my first coin Book. * Bought my first TPG certified coin * Started a NGC registry set * Bought my first CAC coin * Bought my first * coin * Bought my first + coin * Became a member and sent my first coins in to a TPG (NGC. Oh also included all my paper finds. Each one at face from the bank over this year. Few blue and reds. One radar and all star notes under 640k.
No, but as a former Kennedy addict I was thinking about it , but then I thought better of it. Just too much $$ for me, and not high enough on the priority list.
@geekpryde with your help I was able too have some nice Lincoln cents certified by CAC. The NGC MS67RD 1946 Lincoln Wheat Ear cent which is the first in MS67RD that CAC certified is the best in that group. Thanks for you help. The addition of the NGC MS66RB 1955 Doubled Die Obverse Lincoln Wheat Ear cent and the NGC MS67RD 1972 Doubled Die Obverse Lincoln Memorial cent CAC certified are some of my top purchases this year.
I added 29 horse coins to my main collection in 2014, bringing the total up to 233 certified coins. A few other things here and there, and all in all a pretty good year for finding unique and interesting numismatic items. Wishing all the very best as we head into 2015.
I'm sure you'll find one in the aftermarket in the next year or so and you will probably save a good amount when the series cools.
