... sorry fellas (I really should have joined-in ... but again, I really didn't know how I was gonna pick one of my coins as a prize?!) ...

=> next year I'll buy a coin to give away (then there won't be a personal attachment)

I hope that all of you are having a great ho-ho-holiday season!!

    Cheers, my ancient-coin-friends!!

Nice coins, Bill...someone did you right. Be sure and hold them in your hands. The tactile aspect is one of the best parts about collecting ancients. You don't have to worry about fingerprints - the coins are way past being bothered by them. :)

I did and noticed their far more 3 dimensional and higher relief as well as thicker. And their not over cleaned which I like. I thought I did real well and sent off comparable (us though) am curious about any good books on ancients been reading some posts here and am getting very intrigued :)

Wayne Sayle's books are a good introduction and you can get them cheap on Amazon. Click here.

Thanks! I think I may do some reading up on them. I been really liking some of the ancients you and a couple others been putting up on the us forums. And I never been afraid to expand my horizons!

Careful, ancients will turn you into a junkie, noone ever said, " I want to be an ancient coin collector when I grow up."

I want ancient gold or big silver, preferably in decent grades with lots of visible detail. Alas it will be many moons before I can afford what I want to collect.

In the meantime, there are plenty of affordable silver and bronzes to keep you busy and satisfied. You know, some of the bronzes in EF condition can cost as miuch or more than the gold coins.
