I have a PCGS MS65 Walking Liberty Half, but it has a tiny lamination on the reverse. Would that keep it from CACing?
Should we just make something up to answer this? The only way to answer that question would be to send it to the "Green Giant" factory and see if it comes back with a bean.
My question is legitimate, not "something [you] should just make up to answer this," as you said. I want to know if a lamination error is a knock against a coins grade and/or it's potential for stickering. Maybe someone has had an experience with this in submitting to CAC. Though I know that certainly wouldn't be you.
From another member here, who is also a CAC member (not me), you have this quote: "I know for sure they will not do...lamination errors. Or at least not at the time I asked." March, 2014. However, I would either just call or email CAC. They are making a lot of changes right now to what they accept, or no longer accept.
@C-B-D , I tried sending you a PM with some additional CAC info, but it wouldn't let me send. I guess PM me if you are interested. -Matt
The best thing to do would be to contact CAC for clarification, but it has been my impression that they look negatively upon laminations.
Personally I would be ticked if I got this coin. I have always thought TPG's should notate any strike defects. I think its unfair to simply call this coin a 65 without noting a glaring defect. If they wish to ignore such defects for grading I can understand the logic, but it should be noted on the slab so one knows what to expect. I am not saying its a "bad" coin CBD, no offense meant. I know some people like such errors. I am just saying that since there is a mint error on it, it should be noted so people don't expect a "clean" coin.
Yeah, I can certainly understand that. In my listing for it, I wrote in the description that it has the lamination.
Well, it's not particularly well struck on the center if the obverse. The hand is pretty weak IMO. But these aren't my forte'.
For a 1942 Philly WLH, that coin's nothing to write home about. I would personally be VERY upset if I purchased this coin in a PCGS MS65 holder and the planchet flaw wasn't clearly described by the seller or shown in good pictures. And, if it were offered, I'd personally pass. But, you never know with CAC, they have stickered a LOT of coins I would never buy.
I'm gonna write home about it. She's a toned and lustrous beauty. "Dear Mom, someone poo-pooed my coin today, but I know you'll appreciate it. Love, your little boy."
But, you never know with CAC, they have stickered a LOT of coins I would never buy. [/QUOTE] Yep they've stickered a lot of butt ugly coins , but that usually is from ugly toning not bad planchets or other problems .
