Exactly. Lack of copper visible on the rim is not an indicator of a 90% silver coin. Now, if copper is visible...then yes, it is clad. But, I have seen many clad coins without visible copper.
Of the three or four that I believe exist, I own the finest. 1965 quarter struck on a 90% silver planchet AU 58. Mint error. Pcgs.
WOW. I think I found an error too! Can you show us the edge? (If you have pics of the edge before u got it certified?) because I want to compare it to mine.
yeah, very interesting and worthwhile to see my coin looking like silver (Then spending it to see who thinks its silver)!
What a great coin. A 65 silver and a 64 clad are at the top of my want list. Quarter or dime I don't care. There's a 65 silver quarter on the market now that's not near as nice as this one for $6500. Off metal versions e.g. 65 quarter on silver dime planchet appear to be much less rare.
Very true OEG! I got my set to distinguish 1982 copper/zinc cents. Without it, I wouldn't have found my 1941 wheat cent struck on rolled thin planchet (2.72 grams). I "mishandled" it and it sounded like silver. I checked weight. It's fairly minor, but I have an example! I check most now.
