One of the local coin stores has a PCGS 1885 s Morgan in AU 53 it's a really nice coin and he is asking $140 for it he is usually somewhat flexible on prices what do you guys think a reasonable lowball offer would be without getting myself kicked out of there?
Unlike your text, be sure to use a decimal point in your offer. I wouldn't want to see you pay $10000 for it. Chris
A "reasonable lowball offer", huh? Are you looking to walk away with the coin at a fair and reasonable price, or simply hoping to have it basically gifted to you? While there is absolutely nothing wrong with looking for the best price possible, it should be understood that intentionally lowballing isn't a good way to get on this guy's good side, which may not matter if this would be a one-off deal, but if you hope to do business with him in the future, tread lightly.
People complain about dealers and their pricing. A lowball is the equivalent of overcharging. I think you should not buy the coin at all, because an attitude adjustment is in order. How about a mutually fair price, where both of you are happy? I have NEVER lowballed for any coin that I've purchased--I negotiate a win/win arrangement for me and the seller.
