That's an exceptionally nice coin, Steve, might I add - for a Byzantine. I haven't collected any Byzantine yet - not that I mind rough coins, but it's just another vast area that I haven't gotten to.

They offered me a near similar one for a few bucks. I didn't buy it. I'm going to buy it tomorrow.

=> okay "Cyzicus" ... I was using Cyzique (French translation)

I can't seem to get my acsearch in "English" (it boots me out when I try to click-on the pull-down menu) ... however, I'm sure it's merely operator-error (I'll keep working on it)

    thanks again for your help

We all have to learn not to worry about spellings when dealing with languages both modern and ancient with their own rules and alphabets. Italian is particularly bad about changing Latin words to make them their own (sesterce, Imperatore Cesare Marco Aurelio Antonino Augusto). Greek names and Romanized forms can confuse if we allow them to but I hope all realize Cyzicus and Kyzikos are the same as are Hercules and Herakles. I'd rather we not get too concerned about what is 'right' as long as we can understand what is being said. The worst we see here might be the denomination names litra and obol, stater and didrachm, antoninianus and aurelianus etc. I'm just glad we don't talk more about Chinese cash and the rulers with multiple names transliterated in multiple systems. I'll never be able to keep all that straight.

ahahaha Bing, that's awesome (and sadly, very true in some cases) ... it hits a bit too close to home

Hi.I just managed to acquire this Pentanummium, kind of Monogram from Cyzicus. Could you please estimate the value , and means of cleaning it to get that black dirt out. Thank you .. Monog K.jpg Monog obv.jpg

Always soak in distilled water first, with a light, soft brushing, work some dirt out with a toothpick. Often that's all you need to do.
