Here is a recent discovery I made. just got it back from PMG today. There are only 9 $100 brownbacks knows for the entire state of NC and 8 of them are on 1 bank. This is the one and only known from this bank.
I wish modern notes were this beautiful. Want to discourage counterfeiters, make them engrave a note like this. Do they not add the "Discovery note" in the description like they do for coins? Forgive me if this is a dumb question, just not to familiar with the way that they classify notes.
I didn't ask for any special notation about being the first known. I'm not sure they would have noted it anyways.
It walked up to me at a small local show I do. Maybe 35 dealers. The owner had showed it to a couple other dealers who were trying to rip her head off... One dealer actually offered $500... This is a 5 figure note easy.
I was pretty happy to see it. Sadly she didn't stick around for long. She found a new home this morning.
Well, Dutchman, you should check out the Mebane auction coming up around the end of Feb. he said he will have some previously unknown NC bills in it. They are all coming from private stashes that people have hoarded over the years. He should start listing around the end of Jan.
