Is this a double die? Or what in the world is going on with the letting and the numbers on this beautifully uncirculated half dollar?
I believe those are just the Philly variety, I couldn’t find anything online about a Denver mint DDO, which is why I’m here lol, but there is definitely something going on, could be MD, but I’m not sure
It looks MD to me. The edges of the doubling are sharp, flat, and shiny, as a fresh cut into the metal. It lacks the artifacts that you'd see on a doubled hub-die.
... then again, there's the "O" in God. That looks doubled. I am still leaning towards MD, but I may be wrong in my assumption.
I’m looking at the O, the E in we, and just about every letter in trust they all look very funky to me, along with the 949 of the date but less funky with it
IMO the close up of E in WE shows best how the devices have been dramatically narrowed. Machine (no added value) doubling.
The lettering in In God We Trust is very funky all the way across, the word in not so much but the rest of it is funky, and doesn’t look to be sharp or flat but you very well may be correct sir! Thanks for the input!
