looks legit to me, looks cleaned though

 

No expert on the series, but looks authentic.

 

I'm in the same camp as @harris498 is in, no expert, but looks legit.

@K2Coins areally you thinking dipped? Because of the dullish luster?

 

Looks legit, but cleaned and has reverse rim nicks. Pretty nice coin overall though.

 

It looks like it might have been over dipped for all the detail that is on it, yes.

In-hand the luster is most likely flat. It's hard to judge from the photos though

 

It's the nicest looking *raw* Seated $1 I've ever seen...

If it's real... Why the heck wouldn't the owner slab it?

 

Dipped is acceptable if not done repeatedly, but harshly cleaned is not. This one seems fairly harshly cleaned to me.

 

He doesnt want it in a details slab most likely. Or it already has been slabbed in one and its been cracked out

 

It would likely get a details grade and would be a waste of money slabbing it.

I see scratches on the obverse, but nothing that screams harsh to me....unless those scratches are what your talking about.

To the right of the bust, it looks like it could've been cleaned with a thin wired brush,... they're going in this direction /////////

@K2Coins yup, I see it...I figured just scratches though. I've tried to photograph silver coins like this and inevitably the light will catch a hairline or two, just figured thats what they were. I noticed the dullness right away though...so that on top of the scratches makes me think that @Kirkuleez may have a point.

I dunno though, I'm trying to get an eye for these older coins, coz soon it will be time for me to buy and I want to get it right.

 

@phankins11 When you buy trade dollars or seated dollars, make sure that they are the correct weight. They are highly counterfeited and i've actually come across a lot that people think are genuine then i weight them and they are off by a few grams.

 

Go to a few shows and see them in person before buying off of the old interweb.

 

I would call it AU details, cleaned, damaged.

 

It looks genuine but probably cleaned, or at least dipped to death. So many seated dollars have been messed with, that I would only purchase one raw off the internet if I am prepared to make a lot of trips to the PO to mail them back due to problems. (Been there, done that). If just looking for one for type I would stick to certified in xf-au with nice deep original tone.
