Very satisfied with ICG

"Valued in the marketplace" is all a result of their marketing budgets. It may be objectively true, but only because marketing works. As someone who collects for fun and enjoyment, and not profit, I couldn't care less which slab it's in if I like the coin at the price offered. I'm sure ICG is fine, and my recent experience with ANACS was great. These TPG discussions are always entertaining.

I was never persuaded by the Howaboutism and Whataboutism utterers. It has the taste of a "OH YEAH, BUDDY??? " declaration. I prefer a world of humor and comedy over starched and ironed righteousness.

 

Gosh, if there's demand for these I wonder how long before the Chinese are putting out fake ICG counterfeit slabs?

I think you misunderstood. I mean the ICG slabs that say "educational/counterfeit", that are themselves faked. Heck, the Chinese could put real coins into fake "educational/counterfeit" ICG slabs and really mess with people.

 

We would have something new to point out. I am sure that Skip would be the first to point it out.

The real question is the resale, I don’t
want to beat any one up over there preferred TPG
but you have to admit that the lower TIER TPG companies
will sell for less then a PCGS coin, just saying...

 

A local dealer who used to advertise heavily in Coin World and other numismatic publications now mainly uses Anacs and gets most all his coins graded for under $10 each in bulk submissions. Icg has a number of good things going for it; reasonable pricing, quick turnound times responsive customer service.

These are things that you can't say of NGC and PCGS who were both bought out by hedge funds during the pandemic. One was bought out by Steven A. Cohen the trader who nearly went to jail for insider trading and the other was bought out by Blackstone as the principal asset holder. Last year NGC jacked up its threshold for submissions requiring nearly $200 a year just to be a member, and pulled all dealer accounts that did not pony up! PCGS is slower than molasses in January on grading. Personally I like a minimalist holder, not sure why Anacs or Icg couldn't go back to the small white holder.

 

You can always submit at shows for both PCGS and NGC, I personally dont care to
much for NGC, there holders are very bulky when it comes to TPG,s you get what you pay for, just got on a site like ebay ( not that I am a big supporter ) but of all the coins on there how many are ANACS or ICG ? the percentage is very small.

 

That seems like a Win /Win situation. an Honestly graded coin that may or may not have eye appeal. Don't let the mantra fool ya.
There are many great coins in ICG slabs.

 

I trust icg and anacs grades much more then pcgs or ngc.. though for above mentioned "resale" reasons I tend to stick to the latter (90% of my slabbed coins are NGC) Why I do this I don't know, haven't "willingly" sold a coin from my collection in more years then i can remember (and I refuse to remember the "forced" sale of others)

 

But, if you purchase a coin graded by ICG or ANACS it is most probably cheaper than if it was PCGS or NGC. So you can afford to sell it cheaper and make close to same money. I'm starting to lean toward these two companies because I'm not buying to sell in the first place. The one thing I am curious about are ICG and ANACS slabs as protective for coins as PCGS or NGC?

I think this is truely to each his (or her) own, however buying the coin not the slab will always reign.

 

As an Engineer who has designed many equipment pieces for protection against an adverse atmosphere, generally with a labyrinthian seal, none of the slabs are believed protective against gaseous atmospheric contamination.

Having removed U.S. coins from all TPG slabs, I found the SEGS slab most protective!

Yes, I believe the slab questioned is at least equivalent to the Top-Tier TPG plastic slab, based on relative coin extraction efforts to maintain 2 undamaged pieces when removing the coin.
