Another addition to my tetradrachm phase is a common philip I. This is one of the lightest tetradrachms I own and usually his has decent silver left. This thing is pretty much like a Follis with some silvering and more bronze. Guess the silver was leeched out over the centuries? Philip I (244 - 249 A.D.) Guys, I just saw similar (if not exact versions) on E-Bay and one (unattributed) appears to be another version, but has a unique---to me at least---reverse: a chariot driven by a rider and an 'octopus type horse??...It appears to be minted at Thessalonica Macedonia....Anyone see these one ??? Anyone familiar with this variety?? I wonder if if is authentic or rare???
=> if this is actually true, then I want this cool octo-pony!! (however, I'm thinking that it's probably a biga or quadriga of horses?) ... do you happen have a link?
Yep.. They show snake heads and the seller is 'MROKICH" and the item# is 1214989564...Is that a Philip?? The seller only states it is a 'Roman Imperio Sestertius'...It obviously has been extensively cleaned, but it has excellent eye appeal...Can anyone elaborate on this coin?? The bidding ends tomorrow evening and the response has been something less than spectacular....
It would be a roman provincial. I dont care for the look of it though. It "could" be real, but I think its a fake and seeing how horrible the sellers feedback is with negative stating fake after fake, it puts my caution flag even higher.
