I'm hosting the East Bay / Concord Coin Show at the Clarion Hotel on January 9 & 10. I want to excite and reward my show attendees with desirable, free regististration prizes.
You sure picked a bad time since the FUN Show runs that same weekend. Either gift would be worthwhile. Good luck! Chris
You are also competing with the 43rd Annual New York International Numismatic Convention at the Waldorf Astoria. Jan. 8-11, 2015. You are going against some tough competition for attendance. Kevin Foley, who just did the National Coin and Currency Show in Chicago, does the New York show as well. He's known and liked and has a strong following of dealers. I'm not familiar with your show. If your more of a local or regional show, then these may not affect you as much. I would have looked at Jan. 16-19, 2015. That seems to be an empty weekend at the moment. Hope you do okay.
It still has some dealers present who carry both world and U.S. coins. So it still draws away potential dealers who might otherwise attend just a U.S. show. This combination of U.S. and foreign money happens with paper currency as well. Plus, you can find bullion at at just about any type of show, regardless of the shows specialty. Now a days, not to miss a sale, dealers bring along a good sampling of everything they have.
I can't say that a raffle prize would make any difference in whether or not to attend a coin show. I'd be no more or less likely to attend if there were no prize.
To attend? No. To keep me there until the drawing? Possibly. Especially if they draw until a winner is present. So it does have some merit.
Good point. I might stick around and browse if there was a raffle not too long in the future. In that case, it might be good to have several throughout the day, space them apart by a couple hours or so and announce them regularly.
I don't see how a show in California would be competing against shows in Florida and New York City. Are there not enough dealers and collectors in California alone to make for a great show?
I'd say the 4-piece. I'd like to have them in a collection, but not enough to buy them. I feel everybody would like the Morgan though and more likely to buy one. Hopefully this made sense haha
That's why I brought up the point of a local or regional show not being affecting as much. East Bay and Concord didn't place it for me at all.
I voted for the Kennedy set. Mainly b/c Morgan's don't excite me that much anymore, I appreciate Peace Dollars more.
