I'll post another ratty Nabataean. I rather hoard these coins, and I don't post everything I collect. Nobody seems to want them, so they come pretty cheap. This one is actually in good shape - laureate bust of Aretas IV right, crossed cornucopias. This variation has a caduceus between the cornucopias, with the letter heth between and a circle below. Heth is Aretas' initial, and the circle is believed by some to be the mint mark of Petra.
I thought this thread was scraps from the bottom of the bone barrel, some very nice coins here. Here are a couple of mine... The broken look... The BD look..i'm going to let this one go and take pic's every couple month's.. Yes these are bottom feeders...
Hey ... Batman handed me this freebie as well ... => there's a gryphon in there somewhere!! (fouree, or not?) => "Free" is always a sweet deal, eh?
well, this one was 20 bucks shipped. Mauryan Empire Ashoka The Great 272-232 BC 15x13mm 3.3g Ujjain mint. Gupta/Hardaker ISPC VII II B 23 i really like these little punch marked coins, lots of neat little symbols. here are they symbols on this coin.. left is obverse: 3 symbols; "salt and pepa" "crop circles" and "cat over turkey with fish" reverse shows crop circles, "hour glass" and "hurricane".
Chris I am really loving that punchmark. I need to get one of those with the three figures. You really have an eye for cool.
