So I tuned into eBay this afternoon, and this coin was ending soonest, with only 38 seconds left. I had very little time to size it up and place a bid. It was not attributed and the seller had really crappy pics - I did what I could to adjust the contrast and remove the background, but I know it's going to be a nice coin. This is a pentassarion of Marcianopolis with confronted heads of Philip I and Otacilia Severa, Serapis on reverse. Worn down to fine, but problem-free and absolutely fabulous inscriptions. The fact that it's in this thread tells you that I stole the coin. Perhaps the poor pics discouraged interest. I will be sure to post my own when it arrives.
It's in the wrong thread! It's too nice. Good thing I haven't been shopping lately. That's really, really nice.
JA. This is your thread .You deserve all my frankness.I have the same reverse of the coin you bought it at the last seconds. I mean Serapis that I've already posted . Here it is
I'm wondering how much these would go for at a show. Some I won't sell but the hectes I hardly ever see below 500, off center and worn Not the NICEST specimens but I like them. TBH, I want a few things that will be here so I might try to make a bit of cash before spending another fortune XD
10 dolla flowa Java, Bali and the Eastern Archipelago Kalasan or Kelurak (Empire of the Sailendra) AR Masa 11 mm x 2.32 grams Struck 778-782 AD. Obverse: MA (Massa) - Early Nagari Script Reverse: Irregular Sandalwood Flower place in Incuse square
Trust me man, I had to get that "ratti" little coin from Indonesia. I could not find one around here. I did find one recently but it was $25 bucks and the "MA" wasn't as good.
I know what you mean. I recently bought this minute bronze of Aretas IV, simply because it has the mark X between the cornucopias. This is an enigmatic mark - it means 4 in the Nabataean script, but one does not find any other numerals on these coins, and this is the only one I've come across that has the mark on this series, in several years of collecting Nabataeans. It's shoddy to be sure, but I had to have it for that damned X.
