Most here know I have been on a tetradrachm kick lately. About a month ago I saw this listed and bought it with little thought. I felt the price was right and its scarce for him to boot. Severus Alexander (222 - 235 A.D.) Billon Tetradrachm EGYPT, ALEXANDRIA O: A KAI MAR AUR SEUHR - ALEXANDROS - EUSEB, Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right. R: Athena Nikephoros seated left on throne, holding scepter; LE (date) to left, shield below. 22mm 12.4g G. 2427; Dattari 4286
Man, I would like to see this coin in hand. I have a coin of similar fabric but its an Ardashir tetradrachm, from roughly the same period. The color is pretty cool. Does the coin feel smooth in your hand or is it more porous like the photo leads on. I bet this coin is a lot nicer in hand. Great details with some honest wear. Cant go wrong if the price is right.
Super coin! Despite the little bit of wear, the details are all there, and the surfaces are quite nice. Great find.
This is the sellers photo, mine never came out right, it just wouldnt focus. Damn Iphone. Its actually smooth to the touch, not sandpaper like others I have. Also golden toned too.
The pic looks like Praefectus - am I right? His pics are always dark, and the coins I've ordered from him are always much, much better in hand.
If it doesn't meet your expectations once it arrives, I'll take it off your hands. I might even give you a little something for your trouble. Nice pick-up.
Great new pickup, Mat. The reverse is especially nice. I like how some of these billon tets tone a little gold.
Yea, that is what originally caught my eye, reminds me of my Ardashir Tet. s.224-242 AD By comparison I think your toning is more dramatic. Lovely.
