what if a coin could talk? what do you think it would say? perhaps it could give you a great history lesson from a firsthand account. perhaps the coin witnessed hitler commit suicide or the fall of the roman empire.

Whenever I have a nice old coin I always start to think what happened to this coin to cause that scratch here and the wear over there? what has it been through what has it seen? what was it apart of?

All of these questions provide a lot of mystery as well as fascination. One can hardy conceive where the coin has traveled an what events it has survived. That's one of the things that makes this hobby great.

If you could pick one coin from your collection to talk to for a day which would it be and why?

Alright. Well I think it would be cool to talk to my 1884-CC Morgan. Perhaps it saw the development of Las Vegas been in the hands of a few celebrities been in the pocket spent on some whiskey etc...

I'll play along. I'd like to know who's pockets it occupied, what counters it crossed and what merchandise it purchased.

Nice coin a penny in the early 1800s could buy quite a wide variety of things. Also why is the reverse sideways like that?

There are so many potential stories... If the coin could talk would the person or allegorical figure depicted on the coin talk about themselves or just their life spent on the coin and the nature of what conditions it has been through?

    Just a few ideas...

I'd like to hear George Washington rant about his likeness used on coins and notes.

I'd like to hear about the 1906 San Francisco earthquake from the perspective of coins that were in the mint branch that day.

Any coin/note... What was it like to be stolen in a heist or some such event.

From a coin in the Saddle Ridge horde, who put you there?

From a coin found by a metal detectorist, what got you lost/buried/sunk there?

I'd like to have a chat with the lady on the 1916-17 SLQ.

I'd like coins to tell me whether they are NT or AT.

    Josh,

"Rotated reverse", or "rotated die" is the more accepted term today if I recall correctly.

Tap a silver coin on the edge and it will sing you the gentle song of its people.

I always wonder what was possibly bought with an old coin.

I'd ask the 1940 One Reichspfenning what really happened to Hitler. I never believed that story that he croaked himself in a bunker. I think he took a slow U-Boat to Argentina.

Reverse die rotation of ~90 degrees. I thought it added to the coin's intrigue.
