How about we start a new thread for newest acquisition that is dedicated to WORLD coins only, and which leaves out all the ancients? We would use the following criteria: Non-US and struck after 476 AD. What do you all think??

Here's my newest, from a Stack's-Bower & Ponterio auction in Baltimore. Tied for finest known with one other coin.-

Nice coin, but the phrase "finest known" annoys me a lot. It is not the "finest known" -- it is the highest numerically graded among the 6 coins seen by PCGS and NGC. Nothing more, nothing less.

Particularly for non-USA coins, that phrase always makes me cringe. As if all 1 million minted examples of this coin have been accounted for by the 5 coins graded by PCGS and the 1 example graded by NGC??

All semantics I suppose, several of the auction houses likes to use the term "finest seen" instead of "finest known" by the grading services, etc. And of course it's always possible this coin had been graded once before as an MS64 and was resubmitted in hopes of a higher grade, which means "technically" it's possibly the finest known or seen all by its lonesome self! --Or not--

As for the other 1 million coins, it really is a tough coin in mint state. I doubt there are more than a dozen this nice out there in all the world. In VF it's common as dirt.

If starting a new thread, then probably good to post notice to the others in the other thread to come join you here, and provide a link there to here. :D

Which ever thread appears at the top of the thread list most often will eventually win-out sort of Darwin-style. I guess that means I need to add a new coin a day to the collection and then post it if I want this thread to reach "survivor" status. The coin above set me back $300. I don't think I can swing that much on a daily basis. Unless we set-up some sort of charitable link where supporters of my cause can wire me money for the daily coin purchase/post!

Right, so announcing your intentions and invitation to this this thread for the benefit of others, it would ease your burden and may win support of seeing your thread up at the top of the list.

Of course if everyone posted their newest addition, it would certainly release me of the tremendous burden and sacrifice of doing it all by myself...,,, Yeah, something like that.

SO for a third time, I suggest you go to the old thread and provide a link to this one to help you out.

Not sure if that would work. The post would get buried by even a few additional new posts and never be seen again. Would be like asking an old girlfriend to direct any of my clueless buddies who arrived at her doorstep to my new girlfriend's place.

If you don't try you'll never know. At this rate your thread is sunk.
