Finally acquired a Apollonia, Illyria cow Drachm. Never cared for these and still dont, but I finally got one at a price I was willing to pay for one of these things. Not sure if the attribution is correct. Alot of varieties to these. Apollonia, Illyria, Greece, (200 - 80 B.C.) AR Drachm O: APIΣTΩN (moneyer), cow left, head turned, suckling calf right. R: double stellate pattern within double linear square with sides curved inward. 3.2g 17.5mm
Good pickup. ILLYRIA AR Drachm OBVERSE: MENISKOS, cow & calf, Nike flying above with wreath, thunderbolt in ex REVERSE: DYR KAL LW NOS around double stellate pattern Dyrrachium 70-60 BC 3.22g, 17mm Ceka 322
It's a nice coin to be sure, but if you still don't care for these, why did you spend any money on it at all? lol
I know what you mean Mat. There are a good number of eras that aren't my focus but I still dabble in from time to time and want certain coin types from.
I lose a tad bit of interest in roman imperials starting with the tetrarchy & get interested again during valentinian on, but I still have examples just to have them. Dislike morgan dollars but own a slabbed one just to have, lol.
i almost got one of these recently for the same reason. good call mat...i may know where you got it...thought about pulling the trigger myself. i want one of EVERY type! but seriously, i do.
Cool addition, Mat => I'm glad to see that you've given-up on chicks and you're now aimed at large farm animals!! (well played) I happen to have an example, plus I also have a cool brockage error ...
