Nice one, Race, congrats! I honestly don't know if bankers' marks are identifiable at all. If they are, I'd be interested to read more on that as well.

I did eventually get myself a cool worn example of one of these. Thanks for giving me an excuse to post it :).

This is a solid thread and one lovely design in a coin. Thanks for sharing.

    And here's my latest one...

I don't intend to try to collect all the varieties, but I've been wanting at least one example from one of the legions named on their coins - XII ANTIQVAE, XVII CLASSICAE, or XVIII LYBICAE. These are quite abit scarcer than most of the regular ones, so I was lucky enough to nab this ANTIQVAE from Andrew McCabe's collection when it came up on auction recently.

Even though I think the wonderful old toning, wear, scratches and bankers' marks are perfectly appropriate for the legion's epithet - Antiquae, or the 'the Ancient Legion' - I'm glad that my naked eyes don't magnify all of the coin's little faults the way the picture does. In short, much nicer in hand!

I'm still searching for a Cohort Speculatorum and Cohort Praetoria that I can afford.

100% yah, me too => I have always taken a gander at these coins, but I've never pulled the ol' trigger (honestly, I'd love to be the dude that collected all of 'em!!) ...

Ummm, I'm pretty sure that Doug has several of the these Legion-examples? ... or maybe it's Bing?

... either one of those epic cool-guys!!

I have several, but I'll bet Doug has more (and more better).

I would love to have those too, but they seem even rarer, and yes, pricier too...

Here's my 10th Legion denarius. Bought it as a cheap-priced hole-filler since this era is not really my focus and so I'm not willing to invest in a better one at the moment, but poor-condition hole-filler or not I still think its a pretty cool piece.
