So what would members here think would be a nice gift to exchange with a secret Santa? We do this about every year and I always feel like I give out shoddy gifts and now I am just trying to gather some ideas on cool, unique, interesting, coin related gifts for under $25. Plus I am in charge of bringing two of said gifts for my grandfather and I to our next club meeting for an exchange and I am just drawing blanks on 3 -$25 Christmas gifts.
There are lots of books under $25. https://www.whitman.com/store/Inventory/Browse/Whitman-Books Chris
Silver bullion (which is cheap right now) like Ken said, cpm9ball's suggestion, that's all I can think of. And stop talking 'bout Christmas, I can't take it!
here too. the good news I will be able to now get many coins and still have enough money to finally go to a Las Vegas coin show with money to spend on coins. I have not been to a coin show in Vegas for about 5 years do to debt problems..now that.... that will be almost fixed. yippy.
It's not a bad idea to start early, it takes a while to organize. So, @treylxapi47 you're going to be the organizer this year?
I am thinking about giving family members who have zero interest in coins a PR70 silver state quarter or ATB quarter. I have in-laws who live close to the smoky mountains, and have picked up a few ngc pr70 silver smoky mountain quarters for around $15. They love the smoky mountains, so hopefully it will be a unique stocking stuffer type gift
Not this year Peter, every time Caz notifies me about it I always admire his involvement and would like to work with him (or whoever) to get an idea of how it works for a future role, but I am overwhelmed right now with opening that Salon for my wife and I just dont have the brain power to do much of anything else between work and her business. Plus I just dont have any idea on how Canynn was organizing his method which seemed to work quite well. At any rate, I AM willing to work side by side with who ever else is heading it up if Caz isnt.
I thought some of these Mercury dimes in the old white ANACS would be a fun gift. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...=20.00&_udhi=&_nkw=anacs+mercury+dime&_sop=15 You are talking gems, or close to it, graded, and some are slightly toned, for less than $25
Caz does a great job with this every year, but I haven't seen him around lately. I hope he's doing well. I also hope we don't have another grinch this year; maybe the required post count needs to be increased.
Maybe for members of 6 months or more? You're right about Caz, now that you mention I haven't seen him ether
I recall he had some health issues and I hope he's doing well. We exchanged some correspondences while I was in Korea.
It looks like his last post was on 11/2 and he mentioned doing the secret Santa in that post. Looks like good ole Caz will assume his role again. As for your original question trey, just give what you would like to get. I've noticed that even if the coins that you give are not what the collector would normally collect, they like the gift anyway because it is within the hobby.
I did the Secret Santa the last two years and was thrilled at what I got. It was fun and exciting to get something outside of my collecting focus.
Yup here too and we've had snow twice and its 20 degrees and I'm still not ready for Christmas nor will I be until maybe Christmas eve or not! Bah humbug
My guess is someone else would have to arrange it - @Cazkaboom has been M.I.A. for a while and he did it last couple times. I missed out last year, but it was really the Secret Santa that got me out of the shadows of CoinTalk and become more than a lurker who didn't want to see adds.
