The choice is yours again. As before the :bookworm::cigar: guys that know the answer have a choice. They can answer immediately or wait until Wednesday evening. I hope they wait.

Those two numismatic geniuses in their own minds, that failed to post an answer in the last quiz yet were inclined to troll :troll: the thread, are on ignore. I will be unable (and uninterested) in commenting on anything they post in this quiz. Besides those "Ex-Perts" already know everything.

Below are images of two edges I found on coins last week. In this case an image of the entire coin would be a useful clue to what happened; but I did not take one.

What happened to this coin - #1

What happened to this coin - #2

I'll post now. I don't think I'm an expert since I can't even see what's wrong with them. So I'll say they tried to eject without the collar splitting enough?

It's the only thing I can think of that would go wrong with edge lettering. :)

I would guess the 1st one went through the castaing machine twice, in two orientations...

Interesting, simple, I don't have a clue but so far, I'll go with Jack.

That/s a safe guess. Will you please explain exactly what Jack posted? Many of us didn't understand it.

@Insider As I read @Jack D. Young post; The coin went through the casting machine twice. the first strike was in one position, the second in another making the awkward shape.

CoinCorgi Tell your dog I said hi!

The 1st one went through the castaing machine twice and flipped over.

The 2nd one experienced slippage in the castaing machine and likely went through it twice.

CBH planchets/blanks went through the castaing machine before being struck.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

    Here's a bit more modern description ;) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castaing_machine

I'm not sure what the top one is, but there's only one denomination with "Fifty"....

Thanks for posting that, @physics-fan3.14. I'd been trying to read the name as "Casta-ing machine", i.e. a machine that you use to "casta" a coin. It was driving me nuts.

I thought it might be 'castigating' which is something 'Insider' has been doing to some of the experts.........(devil)
