Leave It To The Boneheads At The Mint Fulfillment Center!!

So I had an automatic order of 5 of the new ATB 5oz pucks. The fulfillment center sends them UPS to my PO BOX, which is the address they are supposed to use. I call UPS and they can't do anything. Everyone knows they don't deliver to a PO Box. They say call the Mint. So I call the Mint and she says well, you have to sign for it. That's why. I said no, they sent the Kennedy sets to the PO Box FedEx/UPS and I signed for them, no problem. Gee, you would think a PO Box address would automatically trigger the FedEx. No supervisor on the floor so she can't get a straight answer on what to do except since it can't get a signature it will get returned. So now the Mint's suggestion is to tell UPS to put it on hold and I have to go to the other side of town and pick it up. So I asked if she would pay me back for gas and she chuckled. So now I have to try to get a phone number for the USP customer center, which they don't list online, and see if they can hold it. I am tempted to just tell them to return it and let the mint stick it someplace warm and let them refund my money and say the heck with it!!

I had to do that with my Kennedy silver set - no one would be home to sign for it so it would have been sent back. UPS told me after 3 no-deliveries they automatically hold it for pick-up for 5 days, then it's sent back. So in theory you could wait for the 3rd non-delivery on the tracking number and then go pick it up. I was able to call into the main UPS number, however, and get mine sent to the local center after non-attempt #2 so I could pick it up the next day.

It seems to me that it should be your responsibility to keep up on the current procedures. If you don't like the fact that you must drive across town to take delivery, then buy them from some other source instead of the Mint.

The PO Box is my listed address for the credit card used and the shipping address used on my mint account. It's their screw-up, not mine, hence I should not be put out because of their inability to read English!!

I can see if they can change the delivery address but that would have to wait until it's out for delivery and only if the shipper allows a change of address, which they may not. Only other option then would be to go pick it up.

Am I reading this correct? You're upset because the Mint clearly states they will not ship to a PO box, yet thats what you provided them with as an address, but it should be their responsibility to make sure YOU read the instructions and followed them? Amazing.

I thought there was another address that you can have it receives by the mint beside the actual address that your payment is set at.

Yes, the Mint will ship to a PO Box. Apparently, these items were only shipped via UPS, and it is not the responsibility of the Mint to ensure that every single customer can read and understand this.

Not true. The Great Sand Dunes got 5 sets to home and PO Box without any difficulty. These are not just shipped via UPS as the last 5 to the PO Box came FedEx/UPS. It is the Mint's responsibility to make sure the shipments are shipped correctly, not mine. I did my part...the shipping address and billing address were correct on the Mint account. You guys are beginning to sound like Mint employees!!

It sounds like something has changed at the Fulfillment Center since I know they changed their policy on orders over $300 automatically getting the expedited shipping upgrade which took me by surprise. I specifically ordered extra items to get my Kennedy Set over the $300 mark to get the upgrade and was surprised that it went UPS Ground.

Does your 5 coin subscription default to expedited shipping?
    Did you read rassi's response?

It appears as if you're going to have to do some footwork on this and future shipments until you make some changes.

Also the enhance Kennedy wasn't the same enhance as the silver eagles.

Well, I went through the Mint website, including the shipping policies, and I can find NOTHING that says they only ship UPS. In fact, it says, "Regardless of shipping method selected, The United States Mint selects from a number of carriers to delivery your package." Therefore, the Mint screwed up in my mind by not shipping the FedEx/UPS route. If you can find where the Mint says they only ship UPS now, then give me the link. And the last ATB order came both ways so I know they ship FedEx/UPS for PO Boxes.

And yes, I only paid $4.95 shipping for the 5 coins. I am sure they would have been here sooner but they were shipped I believe Friday so technically it's 2 days. I'll just have to go pick them up after I get them to hold them for me.

Why do you keep saying FedEx/UPS since it was, after all, UPS that attempted to deliver your coins?

    bdunnse Who dat?

That's been what I was wondering...what the heck is FedEx/UPS vs. FedEx vs. UPS vs. USPS?

So far it sounds like user error, but I defer.

What is the big deal. Go pick them up, or don't order them. Yes, for certain dollar amounts, the USPS makes you sign for them.

They do know how to ship to a PO Box properly, because they shipped my order properly. Any shipping person who would ship to a PO Box using UPS is either new on the job or does not give a rip about the customer.

Oops...my bad. I meant FedEx/USPS!! Slip of the fingers.

Anyway, it does not matter now. I called UPS a little later and the guy said to wait until it was out for delivery this morning and then call and change the deliver address or arrange to pick it up. But when I checked after I got up and they had arrived at the distribution center, I called UPS and the guy told me that when the distribution center got the package and saw it was addressed to a PO Box they immediately sent it back this morning. So much for being able to change the delivery address. So I called the Mint and told them to note in my account to refund my money even though it would be automatic. I will be out of the country for 3 weeks beginning the 18th and by the time I got the replacements after I got home I would lose out on the first release designation. Oh, well, thank you fulfillment center for screwing this order up. But I guess it's more money to spend on other coins!!!

Thank you for the follow up.

Personally, I detest UPS and would just as soon amputate a toe than intentionally ship anything through them.
