Well first of all, who doesn't love a peace dollar with all the details? It's a great coin design! Now it is tough to tell from these images alone, but it looks to me like the coin may have been lightly cleaned. Make sure when you examine a coin for luster you look to see if the bands of light make a cartwheel effect as you tilt the coin. Some coins that have been cleaned can look nice to the untrained eye (otherwise people wouldn't have done it I suppose) but they don't actually have true mint luster. Now to answer your second question, assuming the coin is truly uncirculated it would have to grade MS65 for you to want to spend the money to have it sent in. To be MS65 it needs to be basically free of any distracting marks. Based on your second image I can see a few minor marks but those alone could take it down to MS63-64 which means the $40-50 cost to certify it will be worth more than the coin. Overall though, judging by the second set of pictures I would say you have a very nice coin Probably best to enjoy it as a "raw" coin and if you feel inclined you can always sell it and put that towards a better grade.
Looks like a nice Peace dollar to me , but like Mike said it's not a Gem meaning at least an MS-65 so not worth slabbing .
MS-63 possibly. That's if the coin hasn't had a dip. Edited, come on! Common coin and not worth getting graded unless it's a '66 or better. Still, nice to have in ones' collection.......
Edited: See what you did Green. nice play on words. Must have something to do with coin porn. About the Peace Dollar, it's a very nice coin but I seldom see a Peace Dollar that I don't like. As far as a grade, I just don't know. There's a couple of pokmarks on her chin and neck which are quite prominent. Are they enough to rob you of a good grade, I don't think so but I would never have a Peace Dollar graded unless I was going to sell it. Just keep it, it's a nice looking coin.
Heres how i see it, 'round theze parts, peace dollars arent very popular. So i would hafta say no not worth grading. Even if u think its a gem, doubtful but not outta the realm of possible. I and most others dont buy raw peace $ unless extremely cheap/nice.I probably sell 20:1 morgans>peace $.....'21 morgans are sorta the same(not popular) but since i know alot of the good vams to look for i actually love getting them cheap like the peace $.
