Just wondering about the outer shipping box that coins were delivered in. For value, is it OK to open the shipping box or should coins be contained in all original shipping containers ??? Dave
Coins should always be kept in shipping boxes. No one will want to ever look at them anyways. I keep all my ebay purchases in original shipping packages too. Just make sure you label them well, so you remember what coin is in what package!
I don't think the outer shipping container matters. Unless you intend to try to sell this at a later date and want to cater to the "early releases/first strike" crowd, having the outer box unopened won't make a difference. IMO, you should open it up and check to make sure the coins are free of defect. Also, enjoy the set. You can't do that by staring at a corrugated box.
There is no reason to open the box. You know what they look like, so why bother. Just store the box away and start saving for next mint issue
Next time send the money to me and I'll send you a box that looks just like that one in your picture. Just promise not to open it.
Well said for a collector, but just this once I was thinking about a quick turnover and save for that double eagle when gold goes below 1000. Dave
I have sent many things back to the mint for quality issues. I open everything and get replacements when necessary. Most issues are cheaper in a year anyway. Look at all those 5oz pucks people were buying at $279 issue price. You can get those for under $200 now. Even the 2011 five coin set is dropping. I have seen graded MS/PR70 sets on ebay for $900 and that before the $4 per oz drop.
When sending to the grader, should coins be left in outer container box or shipped as individule box sets as 1 of 5, or 5 of 5 ? Dave
I doubt it. The last 2011 70 set sold on eBay for $1,900 plus S&H and that was only a 4 coin set, not 5. Even if these get hurt by pm's, they'll recover, they are extremely low mintage coins.
