    Everyone,

I found a black quarter a while ago, and found this black quarter. I have read about annealed planchets, but I also know that coins left outside can also turn black. I would appreciate any help with this as I'm not sure either way to know the difference.

    Thanks,

    Swerths

I thought Black Quarter was a disease ? LOL

It looks like environmental staining and toning.

Kind of figured it was environmental, just wanted to make sure.

    Bleach turns silver black.

This quarter is clad, no silver. Most likely Nickel (III) oxide from environmental action.
