How often does one person actually get a big find roll hunting?

I have been coin CRH for about two years now. During this time I have followed the results posted on CT and have seen some members post some great finds. My question though is what is the frequency of these finds? Can we realistically expect to get even one great find a year?

In my two years my best result was from $5 of CRW cents. 260 of these were wheats (mostly 40's and 50's) and there was also a 1903 IHC. No other of cent searches have been anywhere near that.

For nickels my best box ever for war nickels was 5. Other than that box I get 0-2 per box. I've never even had multiple war nickels in the same roll. I've never found more than one buff from a search. I did find 4 V nickels in one box, but have only ever found one other.

My best dime box was 4 silver. Other than that they all have given me between 0-2. Like the nickels, I have never had multiple silver dimes in the same roll.

I've only found one silver quarter roll hunting. I've actually found more silver quarters ( two, one being a 1928 SLQ) from coinstars than roll hunting.

For halves, my best box yielded 9 40%. My best box for 90% had 4. I've found for walking liberty halves (2) than I have 90% Kennedy's (1).

I do not consider any of my results to be big finds. Please let me know what and how many big finds you all have and how long you have been CRH for. Thanks everyone, looking to forward to hearing from you.

I have never found any silver when I was coin roll hunting. I did however find a total of 10 wheat cents by searching a total of $20 FV. and 1 buffalo nickel after searching $30 FV
I only did this twice and in small amounts. It's too time consuming but it is a great way to collect coins. Adds to the sentimental value and passion for Coin Collecting when you find the coin yourself as opposed to purchasing it.

Perhaps this will be something I'll pursue on a grand scale when I'm in retirement. That is if physical coins are still in circulation by the time I retire.

I found my share of silver dimes, but only some here some there. it all has to do with volume. more searched more found. I am not sure what the frequency is ???

I once found 6 or so 40% Kennedy Halves in a few rolls at a bank in my hometown. Young girl was shocked I wanted rolls of halves, and was eager to unload them. Never really tried again, as my primary bank actually returns silver to the depositor, if they can be contacted.

I haven't had as much luck since the US economy crashed and the price of silver shot up, but I still pull silver. I usually ask my teller if anyone has turned in any half dollars lately (I have to explain its the 50 cent ones). Yesterday I bought $7 worth and pulled a '67 and '68. (%40 silver). My best was a time (early 2007)I found a bank near my work that got in a box of half dollars that must have been in the Fed vaults for decades. I ended up buying (to their annoyance) the remaining $235 of half dollars in rolls and loose. Every roll had at least $4 of silver coin in it. Oldest was a 1901 O Barber, most were mid 40's Walking Liberties, and the rest were Franklins. Another time I was able to buy two unopened rolls of 1964 Kennedy's for face. I think I do well with the half dollars b/c most younger people don't even know what they look like let alone that they were at one point made of silver. They are getting harder to find now though without having to order a full box ($500) at a clip.

I've been at it CRH off and on (more off lately) for 10 years.

My wife works at a bank and a lady costumer was closing her savings account and cashed in all her halves. She was giving her son the cash for a graduation present. ALL the coins were below 1969. My wife bought them all, $200 worth of Kennedy halves. 1 of them was a 90%. I know that's not so much in CRH but still a nice pick up from my wife. Every teller I talk to at a different branch says that they can't order halves. With that, I stick to Cents. I might try quarters but not sure yet. Good luck though on your search.

My best silver find was ~22oz from $160 CWR Halves.

    I've found some decent stuff in cents including 1972 DDO's 1(the big one), 2, 3, 7, and 8, 1995 DDO1, 1999 WAM, and some pretty cool errors.

    Great find furry frog!

I've been searching BWRs for years and have just started to venture into CWRs. Can you lend some advice on how you approach it with the tellers? Do you look for banks near retirement-rich areas, do you look often?

I just ask them if they have any halves. Usually they are all too happy to give them to me. I don't search out any bank in particular besides the one in my area. I've been doing this for a little over 2 years now and have developed good relationships with most of the tellers at the various banks and they know what I'm looking for and will hold it for me.

Best was a 1863 f IHC. I get more silver in my change than from searching rolls from the bank. But the ones I get from change are not a lot of course. I don't do it much anymore because the bank is kinda far, the closer one only has BWRs of quarters which yield nothing interesting. The rolls of cents seem to get more and more boring as time goes on. But you never know. You can't win the lottery if ya don't play

How common are Walking Liberty halves? How common are Franklin halves?

Not very, the wife and I have found 3 WL in 2 years, maybe 7 Franklins...

It's such an iconic design, I think most everyone associates them with treasure.

I've personally only found a few WLs, but I've found a few dozen Franklins.

I once found a Booker T in circulation that was fairly nice.

I too found one of those, even some 40% 1976's.....what I would like is a Barber...
