Hi everyone, I'm looking for someone to help in identifying if I happen to have a Morgan with two errors and whether or not it may be valuable enough to have it graded & slabbed. You can see the coin's pic at the URL below. On the coin I have placed red marks where I think the error(s) are. The one by the "O" are in reference to the "O's" bottom being tilted to the left. The crack or mark actually goes around the entire top of the coin, starting below the N in ONE and then ending there as well. Warning: the image is HUGE and may take a moment on a slower connection to load. The second image is smaller if you want to look at it as well, the coin has some really nice redish-purple toning on the obverse side. http://64.38.215.119/morgans/1899-O_big.jpg & 1899-O.jpg is a pic of the coin side by side. Please let me know what you think either here or by emailing me. Thanks a million! Troy
Your coin has a a series of die cracks - they are not all that unusual and do not add much to the value of the coin as a general rule. As for getting it slabbed - I would not.
I think it can add significantly to the value. It's not worth a million, but it might add 50% to the price. Errors seem to be very hot right now.
I wish it was 2003 again, I have die cracks gallure. I've put back 100's of coins with die cracks just waiting for a rainy day. Now I find out my day has come and gone. RATZ...
