I thought this cool little horse coin looked like a sweet Friday night snag ... Celtic Gaul, Senones AE "Cast" Potin Date: 100-50 BC Diameter: 17.8 mm Weight: 4.0 grams Obverse: Wild head left Reverse: Celtic stylized horse with pellets around ... I don't have a whole lotta Celtic coins, but I always love seeing their abstract designs!! (very cool) ... I hope that you like my new addition => please feel free to post any Celtic examples .... ummm, or any examples of horses playing soccer and/or haki-sack!! You guys rock Cheers
My other "questionable" Celtic coin is the following ... Macedonian Under Philip V & Perseus AE16 (Celtic) 187-168 BC Strymon & Trident Oh, and "no" that's not bronze disease ... it is the other green thang ... => Mister-Trusty-Crusty-Green!!
Yah, I was gonna copy this and adjust it as though I'd written it myself (like several others), but instead I figured "ehhh, this wiki-dude has done at least as much research as I have on this $65 dollar coin, so let er buck!!" ... enjoy ... it is very interesting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senones ... oh, and my new coin is way nicer than theirs (hee-hee) ... up yours, wiki!!
Nice coin lil bro. I've been looking to pick up a Celtic or two, but just haven't found one within my budget. Congrats
Thanks for the coin-compliment, my good friend ... => huh, but I didn't think that $65 bucks (delivered) was too much to pay for a 2000 year old coin with a cool soccer playin' horse ?!! Pellets? ... what? ... who said that? Hey "Pellets" ... yah, that's not bad ..... Ummm, amongst the other stuff that I've already mentioned, you dudes could certainly post any coins with "pellets" on 'em ...
NOTE => all of those previous coins with the extremely cool "pellets" on 'em have been CAST AE coins "except" for that sweet lil' double-dolphin (one of my favourites) ... yes, that's a good lil' dolphin ...
Oh, I also have this lil' sweet pellet-example ... Anonymous AE quadrans 128 BC Three pellets before prow Carthage, AE20 300-264 BC Pellet below horse head ... good-night ... I'll look for more pellet-coins, tomorrow!
i love the style of the celtic coins...that's a great on stevex, the horse is awesome...but the "sonic the hedgehog" obverse if fantastic also!
At the moment I have only one Celtic coin in hand but another very fun Celtic is (hopefully) in the mail! CELTIC, High and Middle Seine 1st century BCE "Bald Head" potin, 17.6 mm, 3.4 gm Obv: bald head left Rev: boar standing left; below, three semicircles stacked on the exergual line Ref: BN 9100, Mon XV 989 Note: often attributed to the Leuci tribe, this type now seems to be classified as as uncertain, Seine. To preempt Mat's predictable comment, yes, I have since treated the this coin for presumed bronze disease and am keeping an eye on it
Thanks for posting your coins, icerain & TIF (super additions to the thread) ... TIF => I sure hope that your postal problems eventually result in a happy ending!
ahahaha, that's awesome! (thanks, Bob L.) => you made me choke on my wine!! Ahhhh, Gumby and Pokey (good times) NOTE: Pokey actually played goal in the 1978 World Cup Final game (little known factoid)
