I don't know why I love this coin so much, I've got older 3 pence, half crowns and shillings... but never have I ever seen another 1 1/2 Pence... so here it is my 1839 1 1/2 pence.

Just so you can understand how small this is I also took photos of it next to a dime, half dime and silver 3 cent... How did something sooooo small last soooo long?

I also have been picking up a lot of coinage from Great Britain this one could be the Oldest if we do the 3 pence trade.

Picked up several GB coins over the past week. Some at the show, some from eBay. We'll go chronologically...

    1799 George III Penny

1867 Queen Victoria Shilling. The seller had it labeled as "rare low relief variety". Fact or fiction?

    1895 Queen Victory Half Crown

Recent additions from Britain and New Zealand

1898 Great Britain Sovereign. Fairly serious wear and some rim damage

    1898_britain_sov_obv_small.jpg 1898_britain_sov_rev_small.jpg
1970 New Zealand Dollar with Mount Cook. I understand this was minted to celebrate a Royal visit. And its my birth year.
    1970_nz_dollar_obv_small.jpg 1970_nz_dollar_rev_small.jpg

The NZ dollar has some heavy hazing, particularly on the obverse. Does this look like PVC maybe? Kinda looks like tape residue, but it isn't sticky. Can this be removed without damaging the coin? It was cheap, but I'd like it to looks its best.

the sovereign looks more like a crown, what is the weight and does it have a regnal year on the edge-it should be LXI OR LXII if a crown--this is a low mintage year 166,150--not a bad example

You're absolutely correct! It is a full Crown, not a sovereign. My brain-finger connection was on the fritz yesterday when I typed that! CROWN. I'll have to check the edge...

queen Victoria came to the throne 20th june 1837--so if the edge year is LXI then your coin was minted before june 20th 1898---a nice coin with low mintage

    The edge year is LXII.

so your coin was minted june 21st to dec.31st--just adds to the interest

That's awesome, I had to force myself to stop collecting Canadian coins, I have all of the coins of George V for actual Canada and a couple of Newfoundland, but I was really addicted. Haha such a great country to collect ! The only country I've been continually obsessed with and haven't stopped myself with is India. But there are so many types of currencies there that I'll probably never get near to having them all !

One good thing about Newfoundland, cheap coins!! I've been talking myself out of India coins; too many nice designs so I know once I start I won't stop.
