Satin Mint Set Quarters? Mintages?

I bought an MS68 2010 Hot Springs NGC Quarter and yet it is not listed in mintage anywhere. It is differentiated from a circulation strike but the Red Book has not difference. What am I missing and what is the mintage of this quarter?

    Were these special sets?

These satin finish coins were issued only in mint sets. Check the mint set mintages in the Red Book, should be 583,897. The Redbook does list the 2009 satin cents in the cent section, but no other satin coins are list outside of the mint set section - kinda strange.

2009 was special for the Cent I guess. I Coin World Magazine that does list Satin Quarters, dimes, etc but no mintages.

    2010 P Arkansas MS68 - $12

    2014 Red Book - Nothing
2015 US Coin Digest - Nothing
2015 North American Coins and Prices - nothing

Is this mintage information even out there as a list? I see where you get the 583,897 number though. Hmmm I guess in those sets all P & D 's were Satin.

It's because they're a different metal composition than regular business strikes.

Still strange, the metal content is less apparent than the satin finish. The satin finish is a unique variety that deserves a separate listing for each series in the Red Book. The Red Book diminishes the significance of this variety.

No it's not. The Mint Set coins are exactly the same composition as the business strike coins. The only difference is they have a different finish.

Except for the 2009 satin cents - they were made from solid bronze, the original composition of the Lincoln Cent, to commemorate the anniversary.

Special Mint Set or Special Strike. 20-50 examples known in each denomination. They are well struck with a satin luster. I have a 1964 SMS nickel and cent. They're going to pcgs after my 1992D CAM.

SMS coins are different because they're better than business strike, but not as good as proof coins.

Surely you have access to a 2010 or later Redbook?:)

They (satin) are not listed in the Red Book (2014)

No way you have 1964 SMS coins.

What on earth do you mean by 'better than business strike....'??? Maybe I should ask you to explain the whole statement???

I have my doubts as well, I have since the poster 'mentioned' there was no way they weren't SMS. Seems to find all good stuff where everyone else would come up empty.

BUT.....now that we know SMS coins are 'better than business strike but not as good as proof coins'. THAT'S it in a nutshell, huh??? Lessons to be learned by the overly-eager.....

OK, my mistake. I didn't realize you were talking about the 2009 cents, and ONLY the 2009 cents. I thought you were referring to all the satin finish Mint Set coins having a different composition in your comment.

I forgot about the cent for that year. I can see why it's in the book.
They never have shown the other SMS coins. Not worth all the time to do so.
