Was looking through my father's coins that he collected when he was much younger and gave to me. He had a box full of wheats that he put into small individual envelopes. All the pennies had some sort of defect that he thought. A few envelopes had toned pennies like this 1945 Wheat. I have no clue as to values of toned coins or how to grade them. I see a lot that a professionally graded. One day I will post all that I have found. But just would like your thoughts on this one. thank you!!
also looks like ya got a clash on rev.. between C and E in cent and above and touching left stalk.. heres an overlay http://errorvariety.com/Clashes/LWC_1C_0958.html
I was thinking those "lines" are caused during the rolling of the planchet material, they stay there during the punching of the planchet and the die strikes right over (through) them.
ok took some closer pictures. Ken, It looks like it was the light monster playing tricks between the C an E. But the raised lines are still there through wheat. Also I notices an anomaly between the wheats. Would that be the same error? Not sure why other two pics are not coming up here.
So, in your opinions. is this something worth getting graded? I don't even know how to go about doing that. How can I find, or give rough self estimate on the value of a toned coin, especially one that may have a die error with the tone? I really wish there was a school or classes available near me to learn this stuff. I learn much better with on hand experience. Although, I am learning a lot
