I've posted before about this but I'm posting it again with some closer pics that I hope helps. You can see the Y in Liberty in the second to last column. You can see where Lincoln's back runs right in front of the Y. Further, you can see Lincoln's beard an part of his mouth. At the top of the memorial you can see where the bow tie is.
I'm not to sure about the clashed "Y". The font looks a little big. Can you give us some clear images of the full obverse & reverse? Chris
Here's the clashed Y. The columns are very distorted. The large crack, which I believe is a die break is easily seen.
The font still looks strange to me, and it looks like there might be some (very slight) die rotation. Have you checked the rotation alignment of the reverse to the obverse? It does look like a nice example of the "Y" and beard & mouth clashes. Thanks for posting this. Chris
No problem. If there is rotation, it's very slight like you said. I think I can see a slight rotation on the reverse, CW it seems.
Where can I go to get this attributed? I haven't seen one like this for that year. I've read where die clashes aren't considered a variety but with the clash, large die break and distorted columns, could this be considered a variety? If you look at the at the second to the last picture, at the columns, it appears to be doubling on the columns to he right it them.
You might try asking someone who collects Lincoln cent varieties. I have 220+ "Y" clashes from a 1980 1c Mint bag, but I don't normally collect them. Lincoln's give me headaches. Chris
