Hi all, I could not find same http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=553424 speer and shield otherway around. i am wrong on Ref? or is this a variation? very rare. R4 Reference. Emmett 824.9; Milne 1084 Obv. ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙ ΤΡΑΙ ΑΔΡΙΑ CΕΒ Laureate, draped, cuirassed bust right, seen from back. Rev. ET-ENAT Athena standing facing head right, with spear left hand and shield right hand resting on shield set on ground. 12.50 gr 25 mm VF (Cited from: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/all-hadrian-provincials-coins.246778/page-3)
I think Emmett 824 (Athena standing faceing, head right, holds spear, shield) is correct but the distinction of Athena facing versus standing left is a bit tough. Emmett 820 is "Athena standing left, holds spear, shield". I think her head is also left in that type but I am not sure. Emmett's book does not contain illustrations of every reverse variation so I can't confirm the attribution with 100% certainty-- but I'd say it's 99% likely that you have the correct attribution
hmmm difficult is there a download version of BMC? i cant believe my coin is unique ah found bmc vol. 15
Just musing here, but could it be that the engraver cut the die with the shield and spear on the wrong sides?
