How much is a story worth?

I like to collect coins that feel very personal which is why I collect Love Tokens. My question to you guys is how much is a story/person to back up a love token worth? I have come across a love token for sale that has a story. If you type the name on the coin and the date engraved a person does come up with a story about a wife and 7 kids and was a Lieut during the Revolutionary War. The asking price is very high as expected but maybe its worth that much. I'm aware this is more of an opinion thing but if anyone wants to comment feel free.

Anything with provenance has , In my opinion more value, I buy what I love, Damn kids can do what they what, when I'm gone.

I could just carve that into a coin and sell it. that doesn't mean anything.

it is worth what someone is willing to pay. I would not pay crazy high price for it though. I do not know about love tokens values. I do however love some very interesting carved initials.

There is no proof but it seems legit. The colonial coin matches where the story says it is from and the engraving does not look newly done. The asking price is $2800. That being said I wouldn't pay that much because it's way out of my budget but maybe it's worth it.

I'm sorry, but Josh is right. How can you prove it's authentic? "Seems legit" is hardly good enough. Ancient coins get counterfeited every day, and some of them look so ancient they even fool the experts. Making an engraving look old is child's play. Pass.

I think pedigree like that should definitely add value, but the price seems really high. I guess it depends somewhat, what type of coin it is too. Love tokens are funny though because there isn't really a standard pricing on them.

I love collecting stories, but not like that. For ancient coins, and even US coins, stories about who struck it, under what circumstances, etc are the real reason I collect little bits of metal. I love WHY they were made, WHO made them, WHAT the coin was trying to say to those handling it.

Having said that, something as personal as you describe is simply tough to prove. Even if provable, that story would have a much more limited audience of collectors. For a steep upcharge, I would pass even if the piece had a provenance.

Yeah you guys bring up solid points. I wasn't planning on actually spending all that money on it but because of this I think I will try to actually do some more research on the love tokens that I do have and see if any story pops up.
