Honestly I don't know for sure it is a DDO based on your pictures. I still can't see the doubling on the 6 or 9. I was just asking since those markers would most likely be there and fairly easy to see since your coin seems to be in nice shape. You are getting better at doing the research...Now you need to work on your photography skills
I miss read your reply about a die scratch going from the shoulder to above the TY. I read it wrong, there doesn't seem to be a die scratch from the shoulder to above the TY. That scratch on coppercoins seems to be from the neck to the TY. I did seem something from further down going from the bottom of the T, going southward. It appears to be a die scratch, a long one at that.
Just wondering, does a die scratch have a relationship to which the direction the doubling happens? Does that make sense? Or am I way out in left field..
It's vague but you can see a hint of it. On the right part at the bottom of the T, going south towards the arm.
The scratch doesn't have any relationship to the direction of doubling. It just happens that the doubled die in question had a scratch there and it is helpful in identifying the die in question.
As for the scratch that you point out. It is not the scratch that is shown in the coppercoins pictures. You "could" have a different die state than the one they have pictured. Of course, without good clear pictures of the date, where the doubling is supposed to be, it's tough to say one way or another. Though I'm leaning towards no on this one.
Ya, the pictures aren't the best. I'm afraid that the better images won't be until Christmas time. I'm looking at getting a Celestron LCD microscope.im excited about getting The Official Price Guide to UA Mint Errors later this week. Do they have really good examples of what to look for when looking for errors. I'm excited on learning more so that I'm able to post good finds, rather than shooting in the dark. Did you see where I found a 2009 Formative Years DD? If I remember correctly, it was -051.
I couldn't tell you about the book since I don't own it...or any books for that matter(I know. I'm a horrible collector). Everything I have learned, I learned from searching and reading online. I didn't see your other find. Congrats. I have only found 2 or 3 different Formative Years DDs. With as many as there are, you'd think they'd be easier to find. At least they aren't around me.
This is the coin. I prefer books other than the internet. I like to read and study things. Not only that, but my computer is jacked so all I have is my phone for internet.
Now this is a better picture, used natural lighting. . I haven't seen anything like this on coppercoins. I'm referring to the 3.
It's still fuzzy though. What you need is clarity. The natural light helped a bit but you still need clear pics.
Gotcha. Well, I'll practice for clearer pictures. I may have to move my coin collecting table outside to the front yard! Until then, thank you for help.
I don't see it. I only care about ones you can see with the naked eye. A 20x looker just doesn't bring a nice return
