My favorite is and remains the geese. Simply because they have the highest "cute value".

When I was selecting candidates for my favorite coins page, I did take note of the relationship between cost and how much I like the coin. In that number were a couple of coins under $10 but that was unusual. I took more interest in the coins that cost a lot that did NOT make the list. You might think that in a collection of coins with about half of a percent being over $300 that all of those coin would be 'favorites' but there were even a couple that were in the top five price wise that fell out of the top 100. Part of me thinks I should sell those expensive losers but maybe someday my opinions will shift toward the mainstream and those coins will seem better to me. For the most part it is reassuring that we like the expensive coins more than the cheap ones. I regularly advise people not to pay extra for features that they do not understand. If I listened to my own advice, I might not buy as many coins or anything else as well.

Another thing to consider is whether we like a coin mostly because of its type or mostly because of something about that particular example. For example, all three of Steve's trio are types that I would like to have but I do not covet his particular examples. On the other hand there are coins that are a bit ordinary in terms of type but there is something about a particular specimen that attracts. This would include that Boscoreale aureus AJ shows on occasion (If I had to have an aureus, make mine Boscoreale with fine style). I'm also thinking of a Steve coin with a countermark placed making it look like an ultrasound of a pregnancy. These are coins where not just any EF of the type would do. About one in ten of my favorites fall in this category. I thought it would be more.

I thought your Micipsa was the ultrasound coin. How many of these strange countermarked coins do you have??

Edit: it's your thread so feel free to post all of your counter marked coins :)

It is creepy and I like it very much. Here's another supercreepy type I can't stop looking at:
(from CNG's archives) Moneyer issues of Imperatorial Rome. L. Hostilius Saserna. 48 BC. AR Denarius (17mm, 3.87 g, 6h). Rome mint. Bare head of Gallia right; carnyx (Gallic trumpet) to left / Diana (Artemis) of Ephesus standing facing, holding stag leaping left by its antlers and spear. Crawford 448/3; CRI 19; Sydenham 953; Hostilia 4. EF, darkly toned, traces of red deposits.

Yeah, that's creepy too. We should have a Halloween thread, but it's a bit too early.

I meant the pig in cow but the horsed head is OK, too. The point is that either of the marks could have been placed elsewhere on the coin and made a coin not nearly as interesting --- or is it creepy. I'll attach my Pergamon snake with ingested owl and the not as all creepy well placed anchor of Side.

These Side tetradrachms are very common coins with and without the c/m but, when present, it is usually on the helmet.

=> it's actually supposed to be an "eagle's head" in cow, but I totally get what you're saying ...
