Just curious if anyone sees anything strange about this particular Colosseum sestertius? It was put up for auction a day or two ago and subsequently withdrawn less than 24 hours later.

Another odd thing is that the auction description had it as a lifetime issue even though it clearly has the legends for the posthumous one.

Withdrawing it was the correct call, it is a die match to a well-known fake. In his study, Elkins listed this as F2h. Their attribution was indeed incorrect: if it were genuine, this isn't the earlier issue like mine, but rather the Divus Titus type.

Is this the fake in question? http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=66700

It's good then that they had withdrawn it so quickly, but unfortunate that it was put up at all. Obviously mistakes are made all the time, but I'm a little surprised this one slipped past given that it's such a famous issue (and you say the fake itself is well-known). I would have thought the piece would have been scrutinized closely.

I am wondering where this coin has been listed.
