pretty cool find. I have the latest edition of Bart's Paper Money Errors book, but this particular bill is not included. at PCGSC now. expect 64-65 grade Serial number was part of a run of 128,000 star notes and NOT issued in sheets. Looked through Ebay actual sales, and found no major cutting errors have changed hands lately. Lots of faux errors. Anyone have a clue as to value?
Well....Dang! Your note and my note came from the same run of 128,000. These are tagged as "circulation production star notes." The bills issued in sheets are listed further down. I need someone a lot smarter than I am to 'splain the apprent discrepancy.... http://www.uspapermoney.info/groups/f1995_b.txt SERIES 1995 $2 by GROUPS Circulation production, regular notes: Begin serial End serial Type Length Runs F 000 00001 A - F 960 00000 A fw 96,000,000 1-15 F 000 00001 B - F 576 00000 B fw 57,600,000 1-9 Total: 2 regular groups. Click on this link and scroll down to the 1995 $2 sheets and you'll see the F* listed. http://www.uspapermoney.info/general/uncut.html
help me. The F* sheets to which you refer are in the F20000001* to F2200009999* range. My bill, and your sheet, are not in that range. They are in the range of 128,000 bills in the "circulation production" run F 005 12001 * - F 006 40000. Maybe the person who maintains this website has erred?
I may have found the answer. This info is specific to the 1995 $2 bill production. http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/f1995_b.html "In addition to the circulation-issue notes listed in the table, uncut sheets with higher serials were released for this series. Also, the BEP printed a few additional star notes for collector sales. Some sheets of star notes from the regular printings have been released as well."
didn't pay anything. sent it to PCGSC for a coin dealer buddy who does not do a lot of paper. I hope the BEP maintained records on the handful of regular circulation * serials they issued in sheets, and I hope PCGSC has access to this info. Otherwise, an ethical dilemma will result if this thing comes back "Gem New 66 PPQ, Cutting Error." At this point, I expect the bill to come back in a body bag......sigh......
The F20000001* to F2000009999* range isn't sheets but individual notes sold by the BEP as millenium stars. All star sheets sold to the public from 1976 $2 to the 2004 $50 have been part of a product run. Ever seen any sheet-of-32 star notes? Never sold as all were COPE processed meaning cut into 1/2 sheets for overprinting. I am positive of one thing, the person maintaing the website is not the one making the error.
Final Note: If you run into a cutting error like my note, first check the serial. if it starts with a high number, like 98 or 99, is was issued as a sheet. But check the website below, as the serial ranges are not uniform. And some star notes intended for normal circulation were released as sheets. go to uspapermoney.info/serials and look at the series info. Here are a few of the bills where star sheets were issued from the normal production runs: 1991 $1; 1995 $2; 1996 $20; 2003 $5 and $10; 2004 $20 and $50. If I can find a resource that can verify which regular production stars issued as sheets, I will post it.

But the 2003 $10 DA..* and 2004A $10 GF..* were apparently released *only* through sheet sales, with none issued for circulation. Notice that no star sheets have been sold since Series 2004A. Not sure why, but the BEP only sells non-star sheets these days.
PCGS Currency emailed me my grades. As expected, this miscut $2 bill will make a somber trip home in a body bag....."green 90" On a happier note (pun intended), this Chief Onepapa earned a "red 40." I think I paid $350 for it.
