I just did look at Ebays policy on payment. It states that a seller can open an unpaid item dispute if payment is not received in 2 days. I try hard too make payments ASAP. I was still within Ebays policy of 2 days when the dispute was opened

Do people really have an issue with an item won late Friday being paid for Sunday? That blows my mind.

99.99% of my buyers pay immediately after winning/buying. I think eBay's policy is or was to pay within 3 days. I've found it's a bad sign if buyers don't pay within an hour or two, often they don't pay at all.

I just won a lot, and forgot to pay for 2 days, apparently I am a terrible person.

Eh, most of my buyers take at least a day, with a decent amount taking over 3 days. After about 3-5 days, I send a friendly reminder. If I don't hear from them in a few more days, then I start wondering.

I think the key thing that's missing in these cases is communication. The buyer should send a message to the seller. The seller should send a message to the buyer. If neither one sends a message and it gets into a NPB report with eBay, then IMO both the buyer and seller have failed.

I include a note on my auctions that states payment is expected within 4 days unless prior arrangements have been made. I had one bidder tell me that he was going out of the country for a week so if he won he would not be able to pay until after he got back. That constitutes prior arrangements. :)

As Peter says, communication is the key.

I turned off the auto-everything on eBay. I would rather be in control of my account. But then again, if I list 20 items a month that's a really big month for me. For people with more listings, I can see where having certain things happen automatically (auto-magically) would be beneficial.

Not even similar in my opinion. In your example, you are taking possession and using an item immediately. On ebay, the seller does not ship until the item is paid for. If I win on a Friday night, you more than likely will not ship until Monday, so why do you have to have the money before then?

My personal experience is they care greatly. I had two counterfeit and one snad and in all three cases I got my money refunded. I've bought hundreds of items from ebay and only had those three returns. Never even felt neglected by ebay. When one of the guys selling me fraudulent and counterfeit items refused to pay me a refund ebay simply credited the cash to me directly.

I'm not judging you. But I always have my cell phone on me and ebay gives me both an audio and visual alert on my screen so I usually pay within 30 minutes, and many times right after winning.

You should pay before the seller ships out the item. It's logical. Otherwise, what happens is the buyer doesn't pay, eBay charges the seller their fee, the seller pays the shipping fee, the seller has sent out the item, and seller doesn't get paid.

I realize your question is more along the lines of why should you pay before Monday. The reason you should pay before Monday is that Saturday is a postal day (and apparently now Sunday might be, too). If you win the item on Friday, the next day is Saturday, not Monday.

As for your question about a buyer winning late Friday and paying sometime Sunday, that doesn't seem to be your original concern. Obviously, if you win late on Friday, Sunday payment would be within the 48 hour minimal window. Beyond all of that, a NPB case being opened means you then have an ADDITIONAL 96 hours to pay before anything gets flagged on your account. I don't think it's reasonable to take nearly a week to pay for an item without contacting the seller in advance to let them know.

You couldn't have been within the two day (48 hour) window. It's simply not possible, unless there was some sort of a glitch related to going from Pacific Standard Time to Pacific Daylight Time. The system is automated, so the system wouldn't open a case sooner than the 48 hour window closing.

Again, I think what's being lost in all of this is that the NPB system requires a seller to wait 96 hours before a NPB case can be escalated to have a decision rendered by the eBay support team.

    1) 48-72 hour automated trigger of NPB case being opened.
    2) 96 hour minimum hold time before NPB case can be escalated.
    3) Up to 48 hours for eBay to decide on the case.

The buyer has at least 144 hours (six days) to pay for their item. If something comes up that prevents immediate payment, then the buyer should inform the seller before the 48 hour window opens. If something comes up within the second 96 hour window, just call eBay, and they'll remove the NPB flag from the account.

Honestly, there's no downside for buyers when it comes to NPB cases. If you can't pay within six days of winning, you probably shouldn't be participating on eBay anyway.

You literally did not understand anything I posted. I realize you have to pay before seller ships. That is why I was telling the other person their comparison made no sense. And if I win an item at 8 pm on Friday, a Case could automatically open 8 pm on Sunday... We are not talking about escalating a case, but the case being opened. Not many sellers ship Saturday, I know I don't. A few days to pay is not a big deal. A lot of businesses do this. How many places send a bill for services, and the bill says payment due by... "X". Not many say must be upon opening this bill. If the seller states in the auction must be paid for within two days, then I am OK with a claim opening, but MOST sellers are ok waiting a few days, ESPECIALLY on the weekend.

With my ebay app it takes me no more than 20 seconds to enter my paypal info and send payment for the coin. I refuse to believe you don't have time for this. It makes no significance whether you get 100 or 10000 emails a day. Any open ended financial affair takes precedence over everything except personal health and family.

Why not make the seller happy and have your items sooner? That's what it all boils down to

Because sir I deal with "financial affairs" all day long to the tune of hundred of thousands and millions. Paying for a personal purchase of a $30 coin is not high on my priority list. If Ebay sellers have a problem with the fact that their small transaction is probably not the most important thing in the world to the buyer, they just need to get over it. They are the ones who are supposed to be providing customer service. I treat other bills the same, I arrange payment for other auctions when I have time for it, not at the drop of an email.

I agree if you bid on a item. If you forget or not you should pay witnin a day. Its called being responsible

I normally pay before the seller gets the notification the item has sold. :) But I buy maybe 10 to 20 things a year on ebay and am usually sniping the item I want if it's not a BIN item. Regardless, 99.99% of the time I am sitting at my PC when the item ends.

A close friend has over 15K feedback (100% positive) as a seller and buyer. He has over 800 items listed at the moment. We got into this discussion in the spring and he said something like ~ I bid early with my high bid for items I want and if I get them, I get them. I often have quite a few items that have open bids on them. Most people I am buying from know me from past transactions. When I get a moment, I sit down and pay for the items I have won. That may be a day, two days, or more. I am just too busy with life's other demands to micro manage payments when my buying/selling habits are what they are. If the seller contacts him, he explains and pays them. Knowing about how hectic his life is, I get it. With this new automated system, it has likely changed how he managed his payments earlier in the year. Next time I talk with him, I will have to ask.

I don't have a smart phone or an ebay app. And your exaggeration about ANY open ended financial matter is the most important other than health and family? That is laughable. How does paying for items together at the end of the day instead of immediately make that big a deal?

Not trying to argue with you. I hear you that you are a busy guy I also know what it is like to be a busy guy. But eBay clearly expects you to pay in 48 hours, and as you have heard from the others most buyers are ok with this and comply. It is rare for me to go past 5 minutes before I pay because of my eBay app.

Have you considered that maybe eBay is just not an appropriate market for someone too busy like yourself and maybe you should buy elsewhere? Good deals are on amazon I buy all my electronic accessories there.

Again not trying to argue. But I would recommend considering getting one of each. They are great toys that are lots of fun and very useful.

You are saying that just because I don't instantly react to a winning bid email, and choose to wait until that night or heaven forbid the next night to pay I should stop using Ebay? Seriously? Do real sellers there actually get mad that I might choose to pay for my auction wins that night or the next night instead of within five minutes?
