can someone please tell me what my coin is worth and where is the best place near Bolton/Manchester to sell it thanks
Regardless, pictures of a coin that resemble yours but aren't yours are worthless because counterfeits are all over the place.
I think it's Portugese and here's a little about the words on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_hoc_signo_vinces
First off test against a magnet then weigh it, it should be 10.76 grams. Yours looks as if it has been coated with something in the second pic.
Have you ever sold on eBay? Any Feedback? If not, selling a choice medieval gold coin is not the way to start. Maybe some other more active members can help you find recent auction records for this coin. Do you happen to know if your coin is treasure-trove from a sunken ship?
no idea where it has come from, it was left to my husband by an uncle need an idea of any coin shops etc, we can perhaps sell it, feel that it would be worth more as a coin rather than scrap value, do you think a museum would tell us more thanks
The auction records are key, not what some coin shop says; you've already gotten a lowball offer from one outfit... Come back 9 to 11pm when there's more action and more commentary. So far, you've gotten a very good description (for future reference), now to "zero in" on retail and auction prices. Unless you simply gotta have $$$ tomorrow, you won't be selling the coin across the counter.
here is 1 simular to yours in a completed auction but a different date ... Ebay link:http://www.ebay.com/itm/1689-PORTUG...1573046?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item1c467b58b6 not sure what your coins grade is ? do NOT take scrap metal price for it.
