Barclay Head was the keeper of coins and medals at the British Museum toward the end of the 19th-century. Although modern scholarship has added a tremendous amount of information to the subject since that book was published in 1877, it's still a good read.
Yeah, I own the book. Got it in a group lot. Pretty dry for my taste. I like his Historia Numorum more. A book on the subject I would recommend more would be King Croesus' Gold, Excavations from Sardis.
