HO3.jpg HR3.jpg HO1.jpg HR1.jpg HO2.jpg HR2.jpg Hello again. I just picked up these 3 coins out of a Roman hoard. They look nice, but that is not enough. I surely need your kind and generous assistance to identify and comment on those late bronze Romans. Thanks.. Charles

nice lookin' coins. those should all be pretty easy to attribute, nice legends and mint marks (except the last maybe...clean a bit?).

this place has some great excel spread sheets for attribution of LRB...

for your first coin, check out the spread sheet "soldiers and standards".

you can sort by legend, mint mark, all sort of stuff!

Thanks Chris. Did you recognize the Emperor on the obverse of the third coin ?

i believe it's diocletian, looks like it would be "IMP CC VAL DIOCLETIANVS PF AVG" so check the spreadsheet called "iovi-conservatori", that's the reverse type. you can read the "iovi conservat...." on your reverse. if you can clear up the mint mark i see hinding under the dirt you should nail it.

The one I might expect to cause you trouble is the second despite the clear legends. I wonder if these are in fact from a hoard as opposed to assorted field finds. There is almost a century between the earliest and the latest and no two should have been in circulation at the same time due to changes in weight standards.
