Well, yours is not a die match with any, but sure looks more like 114 under Aretas IV than 140 or 140a. Aretas is listed with mustache, other kings are not. P.S. i will check other references later for you, but it might be a couple of days.
Thanks Chris, that confirms my suspicions somewhat. I'm also even more convinced that the letters on my coin are HRTT after further research into the Nabatean alphabet.
I know where I can get lots of those for cheap at a shop on VCoins. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. And that shop takes 1-2 months for delivery as well.
On the web there is a bibliography of works on Nabatean coins http://www.vincentwest.org.uk/nabatea/bibatoz.htm
Thanks Valentinian, I have that. This thread is a blast from the past - I didn't think it would get bumped. The first Nabataean that led to my interest in these coins and fascinating culture. I've studied Nabataean numismatics to the point of creating my own website, but it'll be some time before it's reasonably complete. (All of the material on Rabbel II is new.) http://www.nabataeannumismatics.com/index.html Perhaps I should put together a team picture of my entire collection at this point, but I have a handful of coins that still need photographing, so it won't be tonight.
