Another nice little Greek bronze. I think I'll clean up the obverse just a bit - get some of the dirt off poor old Mithridates' face. Amisos, Pontos, time of Mithridates VI. AE 18mm; 4.6g, circa 120-63 BC. Obv.: Bust of Mithridates as Perseus right, wing at his temple. Rev.: Cornucopiae between two pilei (caps of the Dioskuri) each surmounted by a star; AMI ΣOY. Reference: SNG Stockholm 1848; SNG Cop. 161; BMC 65; Waddington 32.
It's the dealer's pic, but thank you. I'm getting ready to leave for the weekend and don't have time for photography.
Face, yes, but don't touch the obverse field. The coin will be a lot harder to photograph without that cover.
That's a very nice coin JA. I always have liked the coins I've seen from Amisos, Pontos. Leave it be.
Nice one JA! I wouldn't polish it up too much. Tough to tell from the lighting in that photo, but I like the patina and color.
Yummy-yummy-yummy ... great lookin' Pontos example, JA (super eye-appeal) Hmmmm, Pontos eh? (where to start, where to start?) ... Man, I absolutely love those sweet Pontos coins!! (yah, I'm pretty sure that I must have at least ten different coins from Pontos) ... but I guess I'll merely start by posting a similar example ... ... again, that's a great new addition JA (congrats!!)
