I just read the whole description of the mint’s new ordering system and notice at the end of the description they slipped in the end of the 10% discount. SHEESH! So, with the new low pm prices, aren’t some of the pm products due for a reduction in price? Seems like some of the silver products were offered the 10% discount, rather than lower their regular price. http://www.usmint.gov/websiteinfo/improvements/NewShoppingSite/
I guess the bastages need to make us pay for whining about them selling New Issues on Release Day at coin shows. Punks!
They have every right to do so, but I wonder if they will lose enough business that this turns out to be a bad business move. 10% discount is not HUGE for them, but losing possibly thousands of sales over this could be a bigger loss than discounting a few coins by 10%.
I am not so sure the 10% is ending. They are renaming the subscription program to be called enrollment. Since it is a new site, they are ending the discount on the OLD site and it may still be there on the new site when it is up and running under enrollment.
Looks like I am getting the Great Sand Dunes at the 10% discount, even though silver is down to $ 18.69
When the Pucks came out they were about $50 over melt. The mint pretty much maintained this profit ($50 over melt) as they adjusted the price. Now that silver is at a low, they're pricing them at more than $50 over melt. These guys are a bunch of !@#$%^&*())_+. Maybe it's time for letters to congress, not that this congress would rein them in.
This isn't surprising, it is typical business. Offer an incentive of some kind to build up a customer base and then once you have them phase out the incentive. Yes some of the customers drawn in by the incentive will leave, but the majority of them will stay.
My latest 5-ounce "puck" was charged at the 10% discount price. Since there is only one left for the year, I may cancel the remainder of the subscription and add it to a group of sets and coins I plan to purchase by the end of the year. This will save me the $4.95 shipping charge.
I got an official email today. I was expecting that, since I have some active subscriptions. It's basically saying the same thing that's on the web site.
