It's the beginning of theater season, and I'm eagerly awaiting a cast list...

Post your coins featuring amphitheaters and other theaterish buildings.

    Go! :)

    Ummm, do Nero coins count?

Yah, I'm not sure if the whole "story" of Nero playin' the violin/fiddle is actually a fact, or not? ... but hey, it's a coin-opening, right? ...

vlaha => man, I think that it is very cool that you're exercising that "artsy-side" ... I'm fairly sure that you are an outlier in the ancient coin collecting world (I don't think that there are too many thespian ancient coin collectors!!)

=> you fricken rock, my awesome coin-friend!!

    Keep-on doin' what you're doin' ...

Nero, AE As (oh => and one fricken awesome coin!!)

I was once a member of a thespian club (another lifetime ago). We even went to England and performed at the Royal Sheakespearean Theatre at Stratford upon Avon. At that time I played Mark Anthony in the Death of Julius Caesar and Hamlet in the play Tragedy of Hamlet. Man, that really was a long time ago.

Sadly, I have no coins to post under this subject.:(

I was Mr. McAfee in Bye Bye Birdie in high school, but that's the extent of my acting career. I looked through my entire collection and found nothing associated with the theater, sorry.

My primary interaction with the theater has been in pit orchestras playing cello, which is enjoyable provided there aren't too many redundant performances.

Here's my amphitheater: (with more historical information here)

Paying homage to Bing's experience, here's Julius:

And his assassin Brutus. I enjoyed reading the part of the soothsayer in high school as we read through Julius Caesar, sparking my intrigue with the Ides of March:

Also featured in the play were Sextus Pompey, Octavian, and Cassius (which I have yet to post in a dedicated thread here):

I don't have a Colosseum sestertius in my pocket but Venus Cloacina's shrine looks stage-like...

Well, vlaha asked for theaterish buildings. The only type I know of is the Colosseum sestertius that AJ posted, which is an extremely rare and extremely expensive coin. Does anyone know of any other types, Roman or otherwise, that actually exhibit a theater structure? I don't...

Thirteen? I'm not sure I can remember that far back. And, although my memory is not what it used to be, I think I remember being interested in other things besides coins back then. I remember this particular girl..............

No, no. Not at all. I just think you young guys are so much smarter than I ever was. You have your heads screwed on straight while I, on the other had, was all about playing around. It didn't serve me well and it took some time to undo some of the things. I'm glad you younger people are here. So, no, I do not what to chase anyone away from the hobby.

Come on folks, stop with the language and stay on the nice coins or it gets knocked to GD where no ancient fans would go. Remember 10 points is the magic number~ You guys can add so much real knowledge to the forum, don't mess it up.
    Thanks
