I've always thought a circulated American Silver, Gold, or Platinum Eagle would look neat. But what would be the best way to go about bringing an uncirculated coin down to, say, VF condition? Would carrying the coin around in your pocket everywhere suffice, or would you need to expose the coin to more abuse to give it wear in a timely fashion? I don't have the patience to wait decades. Any suggestions are welcome. I'm also curious if anybody's actually tried this with other uncirculated coins.
It would take several years to get it to a low grade without sanding it down a bit then letting its smooth out in your pocket.
Yuck. Nothing personal. On the other hand, now you can figure out the melt value of both your coin AND your pocket. Oh, wait, you've probably washed those jeans.
Green, I'm assuming you carried that in your pocket with other coins and keys and such, right? That would account for the hits.
How about buying an old Las Vegas slot machine for silver dollars. Put the ASE in the tumbling hopper with a bunch of melt value Morgan & Peace dollars. Since you have the key to your own slot machine, you can play slots 24/7 until you get the circulated effect you are looking for.
I still feel a tiny bit of regret that I didn't keep one flawed gold Kennedy for this treatment. Heavily-circulated Kennedy halves are kind of rare anyhow; a gold one would be nearly one-of-a-kind. I have a feeling the "sandblasted" laser-pebbled device finish would wear oddly, though.
I would think they would be called "pocket" marks since that is where they were obtained from. At first glance it looks jut like an original circulated Walking Liberty half until you see the date. It would be interesting how much metal loss has occurred to this point in time. In about another ten years you could make a fortune having the only Poor condition ASE available for low ball collectors to fight over.
