Picked these up today. All 1954-S coins. All toned. Any of these jump out as super grades? Would be submitting to ngc. Mostly would be for my toned type set. I think I might send in the Lincoln just because of the color regardless. I love it.
As a group I say no , but that cents color is very cool . I'd take Tom B.s advice probably at NGC as they're more lenient on higher grade Lincolns . Though next time I'd take the coins out of the holder for pics . I also like the striping on your nickel .
Not worth grading, send it to me I will give you x10 face on that cent! What an extroadinary offer@! (Just Kidding, I would be ripped off if I did that.)
Don't bother. Grading them won't increase the value any. The only thing it might do is stabilize the toning.
Which is a good enough reason for the Lincoln , or at least put it in a better holder as I'd hate to see that beauty start turning brown .
I am wondering if those coins originally came out of one of those old cardboard US Mint sets packages ? That is where the toning possibly came from, before they were put in the plastic holder.
I realize you said "might" - but why would it ? It's in a holder now that is made of the same material slabs are. And it will do just as good of job as a slab will. As for submitting it for grading, I'd have to say not worth it.
I don't like those holders for one reason and that's because at even a short drop they have a tendency to open . Also tho no holder is completely airtight , I'd think the sonically sealed slabs or better holders would let in less air and the less air and moisture the better .
Most of you are not going to like me for saying this (as usual) but I must be honest. If you want a strong slab (that won't break or damage), to be sure the coin won't be able to shift around in the holder SEGS is your best option. Every coin slabbed by SEGS is done with thick plastic, coins are well centered, and uncompromisingly firmly supported within the space to hold the coin. You won't find any better than SEGS for this. The newer pronged slabs (especially by NGC) to hold coins are not as good (some coins I've seen are loosely fitted). Also the rattlers from PCGS speak for themselves. Anyhow that Wheat Cent pictured is a winner. I love the toning! That one alone I'd slab, the rest I wouldn't bother if it was my own money.
I actually bought my first segs coin, and i do think the slab itself is rather nice however the grade on the label is worthless although the coin i bought seems accurately graded, getting fair value for the coin will probably not happen. Segs and pcgs are my favorite slabs.
